Our Philosophy

At A Place To Grow We believe that children learn best through real life experiences. We believe children need to be children and play is the best way for them to express who they are. Through play we can open a child eyes to a world of learning. At A Place to Grow we provide the tools to do so. A In-Home setting provides the children with more one on one time, which allows the teacher to focus more on childrens individuality and strengths.

Our Preschool Program

A Place to grow Preschool Follows High Scope “Perry Preschool study”. HighScope educational approach emphasizes "active participatory learning" Active learning means students have direct hands on experience with people, objects, events, and ideas. Children’s interests and choices are at the heart of the HighScope program.

The HighScope educational approach is consistent with the best practices recommended by the National association for the education of young children (NAEYC).

Perry Preschool Study teaches, 1.Aproaches to learning 2.Social and emotional development 3.Physical development and health 4.Language, Literacy, Communication 5.Mathamatics 6.creative arts 7.Science and technology 8.Social studies

Your Preschool Teacher

Hello parents, let me introduce myself, my name is Ayla and I am the teacher and owner at A Place to Grow. Taking care of children has been my passion all my life. Before I opened my Preschool I worked in a couple different child care atmospheres. I have previous experience working in a daycare center, with a room partner and 12, two - three year olds, I learned so much from my time there, that the preschools schedule and practices mirror the day care. I also have experience working as a nanny, and still watch the child to this day.

I got my education at Bow Valley College back in 2012, Graduating with my level 2 child development worker certificate, which certifies me to teach preschool. I am first aid and CPR trained, and always have an up to date Police clearance check available. I am the mother of one 6.5 year old little girl, who also really enjoys having the home filled with other children.

Why choose A In-Home Child Care (vrs) other child care options

One of the advantages of using a day home is that your child will be one of a small group, and the caregiver can therefore offer plenty of individual attention. Day Home workers usually have mixed age groups, which closely mirrors family life and may help your child learn to feel comfortable around older and younger children. It also makes it easier to care for all the children in a family, from babies to school age children. Often, caregivers look after children from babyhood through to secondary school, giving them a great sense of security. Many parents like this family-friendly interaction, and often what starts out as a childcare arrangement becomes a strong friendship that lasts for years.

Our center and daily Activties

A Place to grow Implements daily circle times, full of interactions and group activities. Our morning circle time involves group talk, each child gets a turn to discuss their weekend or share things they want to tell the group. When learning in circle time, each child gets chances to answer questions, questions are geared to what I think they are individually knowledgeable about. In Circle time and other activities, we try to excite the children into joining. If they neglect to then they are not forced to join in. A lot of times children refusing to join shows that your lessons may be too hard, or not engaging enough.

A Place to grow has the following centers; Book center, for group interactions, learning, and literacy. This area is also used as our transitioning space after toy clean up, and our quite time area when the children are having emotional episodes, or other reasons for personal space, such as relaxing. In the same area we have quite toys that are often used by one child at a time, such as individual puzzles, and learning blocks, building blocks, cars and tracks. Toys that are geared to our younger children are also in this area, items such as rattles, stuffed animals, foam toys, musical instruments, and anything that is geared to baby’s senses are also in this area.  This is a low traffic area for floor activities and for small motor skill growth and individual play.

There is a Dramatic play center that is used to help children’s development. This area is provided for children to practice pretending real life scenarios. The center is equipped with a play kitchen, play food and dishes, dress up clothes, and furniture. These tools help children learn social skills, practice the use of small and large motor skills when putting on costumes, act out real life skills such as cooking. Barbie’s, baby dolls, animal figurines, doll houses and other toys are also kept in this area as they are also used to act out dramatic play.

An art center is located in the main area, this area is equipped with supplies such as, paper , paint, crayons, markers, chalk, glue, scissors and more. We like to use multiple sources for our art projects and a lot of it comes from recycling, such as bottles, rocks, newspaper, and leaves. Daily art projects at implemented but the supplies are available during self-direct play time as well.   This center is located on an easy to clean floor space with size appropriate tables. This area also provides us with space to get messy. We use this area for science experiments, as well as our sand, light, and water table.  This area is are largest center, so when we are doing indoor large motor skill activities, such as yoga for example we do it in this area.  The eating space is located at the same table as the arts and crafts.

There is an outdoor play space in a fenced backyard of the center. This back yard space is supplied with different age appropriate equipment, such as two different sized slides, large balls and small balls. Located 8 minutes from the property is a park space with two different climbing structures, a field for planned gross motor activities, and walking paths. The program schedule allows for one hour of outdoor play each day that the weather allows us. Large body movement Games are provided indoor if we are unable to venture outside.
